How do I register for camp?
  • Complete the Registration Form and send it in with a deposit check.  You may also register online by following the link on the home page.  Reservations are made on a first come, first served basis.

How do I know if my child is ready for an overnight camp experience?
  • This and many more questions are answered at www.CampParents.org, an American Camp Association link.  Camp Pendola is proud to be an American Camp Association (ACA) accredited camp. We adhere to over 300 standards in categories or health, safety, training, programing and transportation.

What should my child take to camp?
 
First Timers:
  • Every camper needs a few days to adjust to camp life. Up beat letters from home can help.
    Non-food packages and letters may be sent to:

  • Some things that will ensure your child’s success at camp include:
    • Helping your child prepare for camp by having them pack. Get the supplies  together that they will need and begin packing a week or more ahead of time (Water bottle, items they won’t need prior to camp).
    • Practice with them what they are going to wear each day and have them  practice laying out their clothes each day for a week prior to camp.
    • Teach your child how to straighten out their sleeping bag as it lays on the  cot and how to use any other equipment they bring (flashlight, camera, etc.)
    • Teach your child how to take a shower if they normally take a bath.
    • Teach your child how to keep their clothes neat in the suitcase under their  bunk.
    • Take a look at the Daily Schedule together. Please remember this is a sample. Each week and cabin has its own unique schedule based on a variety of options.
    • Problem solve with your children how to deal with problems he/she might  encounter at camp. What if you loose your flashlight? What if you don’t like  another cabin mate? What if you don’t feel well? Practice with your child through role playing some of these scenarios.

Are there laundry facilities if my child is staying for more than one week? -
  • Yes, weekend counselors will help your child do their own laundry. Be sure your child’s name is clearly marked on each piece of clothing. Please do not send new or valuable clothes to camp.  There is an additional fee for weekend campers.

May my child call home?
  • Campers do not have access to phones and cell phones do not get reliable reception and are not permitted. [No Cell Phone Policy]  If a problem comes up, the Camp Director will call you. You may mail or e-mail your child at Camp.

How much does Camp cost? (After May 15 add $25 per registered week)
  • The fee for 2013 is $450 for the first child for 1 week. $425 for each child or week after the first
  • The Canoe trip is $475.
  • Seedlings Mini-Camp is $250.
  • Camper Buddy Discount-bring a new friend to camp for the week and earn a $25 credit for you and your buddy (limit one per person) Buddy campers can not have attended camp in the past two year.
  • Camp fees do not cover the long term costs of operating Camp Pendola. If you would like to help keep Camp Pendola going in the future, please consider making a donation.
  • Camperships  and fee assistance programs are available.

What time does my child need to be at Camp?
  • Campers will arrive in camp between 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday.
 
What time does my child return home?
  • Your child may be picked-up at Camp at 9:30 am on Saturday except for Seedling/Mini Week sessions whose departure is Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. .
     
 
What type of first-aid is available?
  • All of our staff is trained in First aid and most of the staff are certified as basic Wilderness First Aiders.  We have phone contact with the Downieville Medical Clinic.
  • Lifeguards are provided at the pond, lake and river during swim times.
  • A MD is on call 24 hours a day.
  • The fire department is 6 miles away and a life-flight helicopter can land on the main lawn in case of emergency.
  • Counselors are also given radios to communicate with camp while they are on their camp-outs with the campers.

What are the ages of your counselors?
  • Our counselors and program staff are at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school.  Most counselors are college students.

Do your counselors go through a background check?
  • All counselors are required to go through the live scan process and be fingerprinted and background checked.
  • Year round staff are on an automatic update reporting system via the live scan process.
  • Returning and year round staff complete a voluntary disclosure statement annually
  • Applicants and staff are checked against the National Sex Abuse Registry annually.
  • International staff have background checks completed in their country of origin.

What kind of training do your staff receive?
  • All camp staff go through a pre-camp training program that provides training in child development, risk management, child abuse and bullying. 
  • Staff are trained in overnight camping skills based on the American Camp Association Outdoor Living Skills Progression. It includes shelters, water filtration and stove/fire safety.
